QCWA CHAPTER 70

• Following the usual enjoyable time of socializing we sat down for dinner at 1850 hrs. There were 16 members plus one guest present. Considering the inclement weather this was a good turnout.

• The meeting was called to order at 1955 hrs. by the chairman, Bill Barrie (VE3AAS). Moved by Jim Dean (VE3IQ), seconded by George Roach (VE3BNO) that the minutes of the September meeting be accepted as published. A financial report was given by the secretary-treasurer, Keith Bedal (VE3GFI). The balance on hand for Chapter 70 as of Nov. 14th, 1995 is $496.63. This was followed by round-table introductions.

• The Nominating Committee report was given by Graham Ide (VE3BYT). Graham moved the acceptance of this report, seconded by Jim Dean. The officers for 1996 will be:-

• Bill Barrie expressed thanks to the previous executive for a job well done over the past year. Bill made note of the especially heavy load ably performed by the secretary-treasurer, Keith Bedal (Thanks for those kind words Bill - de Keith). Bill Barrie suggested that Croft Taylor, in his role as a Director of the parent QCWA Board of directors, be made an honorary member of the Chapter 70 executive. Bill asked all of us to give some thought as to how best QCWA HQ could serve the needs of Canadian chapters such as ours. If members of Canadian chapters could see some concrete results from membership in the parent QCWA organization - then thy might be more inclined to join HQ. Any suggestions could be passed on to Croft to present to the headquarters Board.

• George Roach gave a report on the 1995 QCWA Convention in New Hampshire. He reported that attendance was over 200. There were 6 attendees from Chapter 70. Bill Barrie reminded us of the 1996 Convention pins that we are selling for $5.00 each. Everyone should have one of these pins in order to advertise the 1996 QCWA convention to be held in Ottawa in October.

• Jim Dean reminded the members of the QCWA Net. This Net meets every Thursday evening at 2000 hrs. The net uses the facilities of VE3TEL, 147.03 Mhz out - 146.46 in. He also mentioned that he is ordering several year lapel pins. Jim also gave a detailed report on the Region 2 IARU Conference in Niagara Falls. Of especial interest and concern was the discussion of the Morse Code licensing requirement.

• Bill Barrie mentioned the death of long-time members George Schuthe and Bill Deacon. A moment of silence was offered in memory of these members.
• The speaker for the evening, Lt. Col. Steve Gagnon, was introduced by Jack Tennant, VE3AHZ. Lt. Col. Gagnon is a project officer with the Land-Systems Communication Project Office. He gave us a most interesting illustrated talk on new communication systems for the Army. Steve was thanked by Al Oldfield, VE3ANO.

• Jim Dean moved the meeting closed at 2145 hrs.
