of the
Chapter 70 dinner Meeting
held at
Robbies Spaghetti House
May 20th 20072008 from 6:50 pm to 9:20 pm
At 6:50 pm Dave Parks VE3AV,
welcomed a total of 61 members and guests to the dinner and introduced the head
table.
Head Table: The

Minutes of the February 19th dinner
meeting:
Ken Pulfer VE3PU
asked for approval of the minutes of the previous dinner meeting.
Moved by John Barnhardt VE3ZOV, and seconded by Croft Taylor VE3CT that the minutes be approved as posted on the web site. Carried.
Secretarys
Report:
Ken Pulfer, VE3PU, reported on correspondence with QCWA Headquarters on about the question
of duplicate ballots which some members of Chapter 70 had reported
receiving. He also listed the e-mail notices sent to all Chapter 70 Members
concerning the ballot advice, the forthcoming dinner meeting, and the FISTS
sprint held on May 10th.
Following the secretarys report,
Dave Parks took a moment to thank Jim Dean VE3IQ
and Ken Pulfer VE3PU on behalf
of Chapter 70, for the work they had done in preparing for, and attending, WRC 07.
Report on the QCWA Election:
Joan Powell VE3ZC
briefly outlined the details of the current election for the QCWA Headquarters
Executive, in which she is a candidate for one of the Director positions. Dave
Parks VE3AV encouraged Chapter 70 members to support Joan in her
endeavors.
Illness and SK Report:
Richard Ferch, VE3KI
reported on the passing of long time member Bob Knapp VE3CDG.
Presentation
of Certificates and Pins:
On behalf of the Chapter, Doug Leach VE3VKVE3XK,
presented one Seventy Five Year plaque,
6 Century Certificates, 12 Gold Certificates with year pins and 6 under
- 50 Year Pins to the following recipients:
(Some recipients were not able to be present at the
dinner, of. Of these, some awards were accepted by others
members on their behalf, and others will receive theirs in the mail.)

Night Evening Presentation:
Guest speaker for the evening, Brian Jeffrey VE3UU was introduced by his former
business associate Doug Leach VE3XK,
. Carrying on from the DEW
Line development phase, presented in February by Bill Barrie VE3AAS, Brian
described his experiences as a young radar technician
during the operational phase of the Line a few years later.
In
his PowerPoint presentation entitled, Life
onArctic
Adventures from the DEW Line - the coldest partColdest Part of
the Cold War, he delighted the audience with a
series of humorous vignettes describing his 36 months in the north between 1960
and 1963.
At
the conclusion of his talk, Brian was thanked by Dave Conn VE3KL. Dave had been involved in developing equipment for the
station at Hall beach while he worked at SED Systems in Saskatoon.
QCWA Net Report:
After the meal, Doug Leach, VE3XK reported on the 2-metre net which
meets Mondays at 7:30pm on the 147.030(-) repeater. He encouraged all present
to take the time to check in.
Mugs: Doug
informed members present that Chapter 70 mugs are available for $6 each
Door prizes
and 50-50 draw:
Doug Leach, VE3XK,
conducted the selection of winning tickets for the door prizes and the 50-50
draw. Winner was
Norm Rashleigh VE3LC.
Final Remarks:
Before closing the meeting the President announced
that the next dinner meeting will be held on Tuesday evening September 18th16th 2008.
He also mentioned that copies of a Chapter 70 Calendar of future events, prepared by Joe
Parkinson VE3JG was were available at
the head head table for those interested.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
