Education / Employment History

1972 – Department of Transport - Radio School and WX Observer School in Ottawa. Related professional training includes Pre-Flight Weather Briefing, Marine Navigation, Marine Data Systems, and Marine VHF Direction Finding.

1972-1973 Aeradio and Marine Radio Operator Weather Observer – Mont-Joli, QC (YYY/VCF)

1973–1974 Marine Radio Operator Weather Observer – Riviere du Loup, QC (VCD)

1974-75 – Aeradio Radio Operator Weather Observer – Lake Eon, QC (YEO)

1975-1978 – Department of Transport in Mont-Joli – Flight Service Specialist and Aeradio and Marine Radio Operator Weather Observer

1978-1997 – Canadian Coast Guard Station Mont-Joli – Radio Operator

1981 - Canadian Coast Guard Station Frobisher Bay (VFF) – Radio Operator and Station Manager.

1992-1993 - Supplied training in Marine Data Systems at all Coast Guard Stations in the province of Quebec.

1997 – Retired from federal public service.

1997-2006 – Radio Amateurs of Canada – Various support duties under General Manager. Served as volunteer Web Master of the French RAC web site, and also served as the volunteer RAC Bulletin Manager distributing all RAC bulletins on packet radio.

2008-2009 (occasional) - Radio Amateurs of Canada – Various support duties.

 

Amateur Radio History

Started short-wave listening around the age of 15 and got into CB/GRS around 1969-1972 before posting to Quebec.

1981 – First licensed as VE2FZA.

1982 – Advanced Certificate.

1997 – Moved to Ottawa. Became VA3FZA.

2001 – Acquired VE3VCF, (after VCF Mont Joli). Main call sign now.

Had the first packet radio station in the Lower St-Lawrence (about 1987), the first VHF packet BBS station in Eastern Quebec as VE2RCG (around 1988) and was the first, in association with VE2FK, to put Eastern Quebec on the world packet radio network (around 1990).

Most active on the bands between 10 MHz and 440 MHz with the occasional foray into the 80M and 40M bands - mostly on digital modes including CW.

Volunteer at Canada Museum of Science and Technology to operate amateur radio demonstration station VE3JW.

Member of QCWA and Chapter 70. His “25 Years Licensed” lapel pin was presented to Guy at the Chapter 70 May 2010 dinner meeting.
