Ken grew up in the Ottawa area.

 

Education / Employment History

 

1943-1945 Royal Canadian Air Force

 

1945-1973 Robinson’s IGA - Took over as owner/manager of family-run supermarket chain.

 

Amateur Radio History

 

1946 – First licensed as VE3GIR.

 

Ken was active on 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80 M using CW, SSB and some RTTY, AMTOR and SSTV.

 

He was also active on 6M AM in the 1960’s and 2M FM since the 60’s. Ralph VE3BBM remembers his friendly personality and sense of humour and his frequent identification as “one of the really nice guys” or “one of the really good-looking guys.”

 

Ken was a member of Rideau Amateur Radio Club in Kemptville, Ontario

 

He joined QCWA and Chapter 70 in 1992, and was a member of the Organizing Committee for the October 1996 QCWA International Convention in Ottawa.

 

 

Ken passed away on April 9, 2000 at age 74.
