LAWRENCE J. (LARRY) MCKINLEY VE3CPG QCWA # 17577 (SK)
Larry grew up in Eastern Ontario.
Education / Employment History
1955 - Larry joined the Ottawa Police Force where
he spent his entire career. He worked in most facets of police work, including
the Communications Section.
Amateur Radio History
1958 - Larry was first licensed with call sign
VE3CPG.
1959- He passed the examination for his Advanced
Certificate of Proficiency, allowing Phone operation in addition to the CW had
to use until this time.
Larry operated on all HF bands for many years,
though he found that he had become most active on 2M FM using the local
repeaters.
His equipment consisted of a Yaesu FT107M
Transceiver, with a Hy-Gain TH6DXX Triband Yagi up about 50 ft. On 2M, an Icom
IC255A fed a Cushcraft 11-element yagi
up about 60 ft.
An Apple IIE computer and and HAL CRI-200 Interface
were used for Radio Teletype and some CW contacts.
Larry was a member of QCWA and Chapter 70.
His wife was Marg VE3EQE.
Larry passed away on March 4, 1993 at age 57.
